Visual Spoken Art Prize

The Visual Arts Prize is the national prize for professional visual artists with a psychiatric background. The prize is an initiative of art leasing | Galerie Beeldend Spraak, the national art lend for professional visual artists with a psychiatric background, based in Amsterdam.

The Visual Arts Prize draws attention to talented visual artists with a psychiatric background; want to make their work more visible and increase the chances for these artists. In addition, the prize can give rise to debate about the relationship between art and psychiatry. The prize is a target subsidy for investment in professional practice and is open to all disciplines in visual arts with the exception of performance and video art. The prize will be awarded three years, for the first time in 2005.

An independent jury judges the submissions on artistic criteria, apart from the psychiatric background of the artists. The jury appoints the prize winners and can decide to do honorable honors. Kunstuitleengalerie Beeldende Spraak offers three money prizes at € 3,000, - € 2,000, - and € 1,000, - respectively.

With winning work and a selection from the remaining entries selected by the jury, Beeldend Spoken holds an exhibition in a Dutch museum or exhibition space. The catalog will be published at the exhibition.
