Chaxiraxi was the mother of gods for the ancient inhabitants of the island of Tenerife (the Canary Islands), the Guanci. His name has several meanings: Mother of the Sun, Queen of the World, Princess of Granity.
The image of the Virgin of Candelaria appeared in 1392 or 1401 has been identified by natives with this goddess.
