Joseph Black

Joseph Black

Joseph Black (Bordeaux, France), April 16, 1728 - Edinburgh, November 10, 1799) was a French-based natural and chemical scientist.

Black was a professor of chemistry at the University of Glasgow. He was the first to distinguish between magnesium oxide and calcium oxide. In 1754 he discovered the carbon dioxide. He managed the gas by heating magnesium carbonate and called the "fixed air", ie "fixed air". Black was also the icecalorimeter explorer with which he could determine the heat of heat and evaporation heat as well as the particular heat of many substances.
