Parasomy is a collective word for many sleep disorders. Paramedic sufferers exhibit unusual behavior during sleep; they are doing something unexpected as it seems like they are awake like sleep walking. The sleeper has no idea what he does during sleep. Symptoms of parasomnia are the common symptoms of chronic sleep deprivation, such as daytime sleepiness, irritability, mood swings and reduced appraisal.
Parasomy literally means wrong sleep. Para has many meanings in Greek, but in this case it means "wrong"; somnus is Latin for sleep.
