Q. Aquila Montenegro

Quintus Aquilius Niger was a Roman writer and politician in the 2nd century AD.

Aquilius Niger was consul in the year 117 AD, together with Marcus Rebilus Apronianus. This was the year in which Emperor Trajan died and was succeeded by Hadrian.

The writer Suetonius refers to Aquilius Niger for a statement in connection with the death of the consul Aulus Hirtius in 43 BC. (Suet., Aug. 11). Aquilius Niger stated that Hirtius had been assassinated by Octavian himself (the later Emperor Augustus) in the Battle of Mutina, instead of being killed by enemy weapons.
