TSV 1860 Stralsund


TSV 1860 Stralsund is a German sports club from Stralsund, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The most successful section is weightlifting. From 1948 the weightlifters won more than 90 medals at the Olympic Games, European and World Championships. History

On August 17, 1860, the Turn- und Sport-Verein Stralsund was founded. From 1899 the club also allowed women. By 1935 the club counted 1100 members. After the Second World War, all German clubs were dissolved. The club was re-established as SG Stralsund. After the introduction of the BSG system, the name became BSG Volkswerft Stralsund on September 27, 1948. Shortly thereafter became the name BSG Anker Stralsund and in 1952 BSG Motor Stralsund. In 1955 the club offered twenty sports. Membership increased from 689 in 1955 to around 1300 in 1960 and 2395 in 1980. Weightlifting and wrestling were the most successful departments.

After the German reunification, the historical name TSV 1860 was taken back on 17 August 1990.
