Uí Cheinnselaig

The Uí Cheinnselaig (ie Cennsalach nephews) were a dynasty of the Leinster Irish district that came up to Énnae Cennsalach, who would have lived in Niall's time of the Nine Hostages. He would have been granddaughter of Bressal Bélach and first-degree cousin of Dúnlaing mac Énda Niada, ancestor of his rivals Uí Dúnlainge. After a period in which the Kings of Leinster had come from both of these dynasties, later Uí Dúnlainge became the dominant group and after Áed mac Colggen (who died in 738) passed three hundred years before an exponent of Uí Cheinnselaig, Diarmait mac Mail na mBo, climbed up the Leinster throne.
