Broad wool grass (Eriophorum latifolium) is a plant from the Cyperaceae family (Cyperaceae). The species is very rare and very strong on the Dutch Red List of Plants. This plant is legally protected since 1 January 2017 by the Nature Conservation Act. The plant is located in the Netherlands in Achterhoek and in Limburg against the German border. Broad wool grasses extend throughout Europe to 2100 m altitude.
Broad wool grass is a solid pollen-forming plant without rootstocks. The 2-6 mm wide leaves are V-shaped and have a triangular top. The plant grows 30-60 cm tall and blooms in April and May with 4-12 cm long ears. The chops are unusual. The arteries are bilite and have a woolly fluff.
Wool grass grows under poor conditions and occurs in blue grassland. Externe link
