Feature (archeology)

Feature in archeology and especially in excavation has several meanings. A feature is a set of one or more contexts representing some intractable human activity that generally have a vertical configuration in relation to the stratigraphy of the site.

Features tend to be intrusive or associated with cuts. This is not decisive, as the surfaces can be referred to as building characteristics and as free standing structures, which have no part of the building that shows the evidence. The Midden (debris deposits) are also referred to as features caused by their distinct boundaries. This is seen in comparison to the leveling stacks, which extend beyond a substantial portion of a site. The concept of the feature is, to a degree, indistinct, since it will change according to the size of the excavation. Bibliografiamodifica wikitesto Voices correlateemodify wikitesto
