Johann Bernhard Bach (Erfurt, May 23, 1676 - Eisenach, June 11, 1749) was a German composer, organist and clavicleist. He was a descendant of Johann Sebastian Bach: Johann Bernhard's grandfather Johann (es) Hans (1604 Wechmar - 1673 Erfurt) was the oldest brother of Johann Sebastian's grandfather Christoph (1613 Wechmar - 1661 Arnstadt). Johann Sebastian's first wife Maria Barbara (1684-1720) was in the same grade family of her husband and of Johann Bernhard: her grandfather was the third and youngest brother, Heinrich (1615 Wechmar - 1692 Arnstadt), ancestor of the "Arnstadt branch" .
He was born in Erfurt and received musical education from his father Johann Aegidus Bach. In 1695 he became an organist in Erfurt, then in Maagdenburg. He replaced Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach as an organist in Eisenach and also in 1703 as a clavicleist in the local horseback.
Of Johann Bernhard Bach's orchestral music, only four suites were handed over in Johann Sebastian Bach's handwriting. These multi-piece pieces of music are composed in the style of Georg Philipp Telemann's orchestras.
Some chaconnes and coral editions are delivered from his keyboard. Also see
