Théophile Seyrig

Théophile Seyrig (Berlin, February 19, 1843 - July 5, 1923) was a Belgian engineer of German origin. He followed the Ecole Centrale in Paris, where he graduated as the best of his class in 1865. On October 6, 1868 he founded Gustav Eiffel, G. Eiffel et Cie. In 1879, Seyrig left the company because he was dissatisfied with the distribution of profits. He spends a trial against Eiffel that he lost.

Seyrig was involved in the construction of the Viaduct de Bublé (1868) Viaduc de Neuvial (1868) and Viaduc de Rouzat (1869). In 1877 he designed in Porto the Maria Pia bridge across the Douro, and oversaw its construction by G. Eiffel et Cie.

After leaving G. Eiffel et Cie in 1879, he was employed by the Belgian Société Anonyme des Ateliers de Construction de Willebroeck. He designed in Porto de Ponte Luís I (Luis I bridge) across the Douro, which was subsequently built under his supervision (1881-1886).
