The voice of the people or the voice of the people (Latin: Vox populi and deriving from it also Voxpop) is the opinion of the ordinary man or woman in the street about a particular topic. This opinion is sometimes rejected by politicians. More specifically, this term refers to street surveys that are considered by television, radio or newspaper makers. The measurement of views of passers-bys is also referred to in the journalistic circles by the verb voxpoppen. Other ways in which the people can express their views are large-scale demonstrations, polls, elections and public consultation. Piles in the street A poll in the opinion of a coincidental passerby.
Most people are called on the street to give their spontaneous opinion about a particular newsfeed. Because the responses of these people are unpredictable, responses are usually included. Then a choice is made of the different reactions, usually to reflect a balanced composition of different opinions in the final broadcast or the final article. As a result, minority opinions can be over-represented. Also, these people are often addressed in busy places such as shopping streets during the day, which may also involve unconscious pre-selection of a particular type of interviewee. Thus, a poll in the street can not be confused with a representative or scientific research.
