Philippinekanaal

The Philippine Channel is a waterway connecting the core of Philippine with the Braakman.

The channel was designed to allow shipping from the port of Philippine to Axelse Gat and Braakman, when the shores were north of Philippine. The originally 1.5 km long canal was constructed in 1899-1900, and the bushes on both sides were concealed, with the Mosselpolder and the Kanaalpolder emerging. Through the canal, Philippine mussel fishery could be saved.

When the Braakman was closed in 1952, this channel could no longer be used for shipping. The canal was therefore extended to 4 km, runs along the sparrows and along with the Isabella Channel in Braakmankreek. External source
