Jhr. From Holthe to Echt was a son of the first chamber member Hendrik Gerard van Holthe to Echten and Constantia Johanna Anna Christina Barones van der Feltz. He married on 20 June 1918 in Assen with Johanna Cornelia Wilhelmina Mollerus, daughter of Antonie Pieter Hendrik Johan Mollerus and Johanna Cornelia Wilhelmina van Loon. After his study economics, he worked as a volunteer on the municipal secretary of Renkum. In July 1937 he was appointed Mayor of the Drentse Vledder. In November 1941 he was fired as mayor by the German occupier. After the Second World War, he returned to Mayor of Vledder. He completed this position until 1957. He died in July 1971 at the age of 79 in Ede.

His brother Marie Louis was Mayor of Rhenen, Zeist and Breukelen.
