Cave of Cosquer

The cave of Cosquer is a cave which is 37 meters under water and where animal drawings are applied, just like in the caves of Lascaux. The cave of Cosquer is located in the Calanque de Morgiou, close to Marseille.

The drawings can be dated around 18,500 BC. and are still visible even though the cave has been underwater for so long. When these drawings were made in prehistory, this cave was not yet under water. The cave was discovered by Henri Cosquer in 1985, but the drawings were not known until 1991 for the general public.
