A florist or florist is a professional who sells (cut) flowers, plants and accessories from a store, street stall or kiosk, or market stall.
Florists have expertise in the field of flowers and plants and can inform customers about their care and shelf life and, for example, the meaning of certain flowers. Florists also make bouquets and flower arrangements together (the so-called flower art). An additional service provided by many florists is the delivery of bouquets and floral items to the house on the occasion of birthdays, anniversaries, parties, births, weddings or funerals, usually accompanied by an attached card or ribbon with congratulations, condolences and the Name of sender. Florists are often affiliated with national and international organizations (such as Fleurop) to provide delivery of flowers over long distances. There are training courses for florist and flower arrangements.
In Flanders, the term florist is also used for the horticulturist who cultivates flowers in greenhouses and distributes them through the wholesaler.
