Polyoxymethyleen

The chemical structure of POM

Polyoxymethylene (POM), also known as polyacetal, is a polymer that is especially known for its industrial application due to its hardness. It is a formaldehyde polymer (especially trioxane) and is prepared via cationic ring opening polymerization. The fabric is also known under the concept monopoly Delrin, developed by DuPont. The fabric is commonly used for parts in machinery as a replacement for metal. The advantage is that it does not oxidize and that no oil or ball bearings are required for smooth mechanical mobility.
