Theodora III

Theodora III (Greek: Θεοδώρα; ca. 980 - Constantinople, August 31, 1056) was a Byzantine Empress.

Theodora was the daughter of Emperor Constantine VIII and the younger sister of Emperor Zoë. In 1032 she was forced to retreat in the monastery. On April 21, 1042 she became together with Zoë Empress. On June 11th, her emperor ended when her sister married Constantijn IX.

After the death of Constantine, Theodora came on the throne for the second time and ruled from January 11, 1055 until her death in August 1056. She was already over seventy. With her death, the Macedonian dynasty ended. She was succeeded by Michael VI.
