Society Klazienaveen

The N.V. Turfstrooiselfabriek and Veenderij Klazienaveen of the firm W.A. Scholten, briefly called Klazienaveen, was a dyeing company founded by Jan Evert Scholten. History

Founding company of the company was Willem Albert Scholten, who accidentally became involved in the purchase of farmland in Emmer-Compascuum in 1873. In 1874 he bought the Smeulveen of 974 hectares, as well as 1000 hectares in the Barger-Oosterveen. Thus he hoped to supply his sugar, potato flour and straw carton plants. By purchase and exchange, he eventually had 2,200 hectares of cattle.

His son, Jan Evert Scholten, began the paintings near the Extended Hoogeveense Vaart. In 1899 he founded a turf carton factory. In 1906 he digged the Scholtenkanaal, which communicated this cruise with the Stadskanaal. Jan Evert founded the village Klazienaveen, named after his mother, Klaziena Sluis.

The pulp mill and veermanij became an independent company of the Scholten group in 1905. After the First World War, no turf litter was produced and became an operator of agricultural land. The décor took place for the Puritfabriek, which was founded by the Society Klazienaveen in 1919, but came into the hands of the NV Algemeene Norit Society in 1924.

In addition to turf litter, an experimental turf cardboard factory was established that operated from 1899-1904.

In 1942, the turf loaf factory was re-operated, in order to prevent the machine from being otherwise advanced by the occupier. After 1945, one produced at the factory of NV Turdana, which burned in 1959. A new factory was built and this was commissioned in 1962 to close in 1975.

After the Second World War, garden turf was produced, but eventually the company became an operating company of agricultural land. The original land ownership of over 2,000 hectares was reduced to 1100 hectares over time. The current name of the company is Scholtenszathe.
