Phytoma is the whole of the plant mass, that is, the biomass constituted by the weight of plant organisms present on a given surface. It is a measure, expressed in g / m² or t / ha, used for quantitative analysis of vegetation covering a territory.
The organic mass is weighed after having been subjected to slow drying at low temperatures, not considering the radical apparatus, since being underground is difficult to measure and is believed to represent 10-15% of total phytomass. In order to calculate the area's phytonutre, it is also necessary to carry out more surveys during the year, due to its variation determined by the different biological cycles of the plant species present, closely conditioned by the type of climate that characterizes the area. Thus, the annual production of phytonutre can be compared to that of the past years to calculate relative production, a measure used in agronomic and forest surveys, indicative of the annual increase or decrease of the phytomas in that territory.
