Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart, pseudonym of Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz (New York, November 28, 1962), is an American comedian, actor, producer and author. He was especially known as The Daily Show presenter, who started in 1996, and with Stephen Colbert as a producer of The Colbert Report. These are two satirical television programs that mainly focus on American media and politics.

An interview with Stewart at the CNN news channel in October 2004 caused fury in the United States. In the direct crossfire debate program he swept the floor with two interviewers because they were so-called partisan hacks of the two political parties in the United States. They did not do anything to support the political debate, which Stewart found it necessary for the United States to have in their program. A while later CNN stopped the program. The CNN producers gave Stewart's criticism as a reason for discontinuing and said that Stewart had instructed them to bring more news and less opinion.

In 2004, his book America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction, a comedy lesson in American citizenship. In 2010, a similar book entitled Earth (The Book): A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race, a comic manual for alien creatures to understand humanity and humanity.

On March 3, 2006, he presented the 78th Oscar Award and on February 24th 2008 he presented the 80th.

Stewart organized in October 2010 together with Stephen Colbert the Rally to Restore Sanity and / or Fear. At the demonstration, approximately 215,000 people came down. The purpose of the meeting was to give an outlet to the more moderate Americans who were not heard because, according to Stewart, people with extreme ideas, where only 15 to 20 percent of Americans belong, discussed the debate about politics in the United States States. The demonstration was a plea for a reasonable discussion.

On August 6, 2015, Stewart presented his last (extra long) broadcast. He said he wanted to focus on stand-up comedy shows and possibly also want to work as a new correspondent. Externe link
