Kouropalatēs, in Latin form curopalates, (Greek: κουροπαλάτης, Latin: cura palatii "responsible for the palace") was a hoax title of the Byzantine empire.
Originally, it was the title of the chief officer responsible for the housekeeping and maintenance of the palace, the majordomus. In the sixth century, Emperor Justinian I made the job one of the most important functions in the court. The title was also awarded to foreign princes as an honor. From the eleventh century, the function lost its meaning.
