The Sijthoff Planetarium was a planetarium in The Hague.
The planetarium was founded in 1934 by Albertus Willem Sijthoff Jr. (1883-1965) of A.W. Sijthoff's Publishing Company. The official opening was on February 20, 1934 by Director A.W. Sijthoff in the presence of Prince Hendrik. The public was allowed to come in a day later. The planetarium was on the corner of the Wagenstraat and the Grote Markt, at the top of the building of the Haagsche Courant. In the planetarium, the operation of the solar system and universe was explained using a Zeiss projector.
On January 29, 1976, the planetarium was destroyed by a fire. Immediately after this fire, besides the Haags Gemeentemuseum, a new theater was started. In this, both planetarium shows and IMAX movie shows will be displayed. The theater, called Omniversum, was made by A.G. Sijthoff, the son of A.W., opened on December 7, 1984 and was the first IMAX Dome theater in Europe.
