The Palol lived until his seventeenth in Valladolid, after which he returned to his hometown. Although he grew up outside Catalonia, he has published in the Catalan language, his parents' language, his grandfather, poet, romancer and playwright Miquel de Palol, and his great-grandfather, poet Pere de Palol. During his education to architect, at the age of twenty, he published Delta, his first poetry bundle. In 1982 he received the 'Carles Riba', the most important Catalan poetry prize, for El Porxo de les Mirades (Portiek der Bllikken). For the same bundle he received the Serra d'Or Critic Prize for Literature and Essay in 1984.
In total, Miquel de Palol published thirteen poems before his first novel saw the light. El Jardí dels Set Crepuscles (The Garden of the Seven Twilight) won in 1989 almost all literary prizes awarded for Catalan novels and translated into Spanish, Dutch, German and Italian. Since then, this highly productive author published nine novels, one of which, together with Xavier Moret, three story bundles, one of which, together with Maria de la Pau Janer, a "divertimento in prose", three poetry bundles and an anthology of his poem in a bilingual Catalan Spanish edition. His last novel, El Troiacord, is in size (the novel consists of five parts with a total of more than 1300 pages), comparing ambition and complexity with its well-known first novel. Theme
