A multifunctional, multifunctional digital display, commonly abbreviated MFD, is a screen, generally small in size, with a cathode or liquid crystal, designed to present information in many configurations. Often an MFD is surrounded by control buttons.
The first MFDs were introduced into the airplanes of military aircraft, particularly high-performance hunters. The advantage of this type of instrumentation is their compactness with respect to an analogue equivalent to a hand. Additionally, an MFD can replace and integrate many tools.
