Nitrome Limited, known as Nitrome, is an independent game developer based in London. Their games are recognized by the pixel art design and the cartoon-like appearance, along with a jingle at the beginning of each game. Nitrome was founded by Mat Annal and Heather Stancliffe, two graphic designers, with the intention of making games for mobile phones. Instead, the company started making free online games. The creation of Nitrome was the final result of a conversation between Mat Anal and Heather Stancliffe, in which Anal proposed creating a game of mobile phones. Stancliffe initially hesitated, but Anal convinced her that it could be a successful idea. The temporary website for their upcoming project started on April 3, 2005, with a preview of Chick Flick, their first game. On May 20, 2005, Anal's brother Jon joined himself, helping with pixel art.
