Operation Mount Hope III was a secret operation conducted by the 160º US Special Operations Aviation Regiment. The aim of the operation was to recover a Mi-24 "Hind" Soviet-style manufacturing helicopter crashed during the clashes between Libya and Chad. In the night between 10 and 11 June 1988, two Chinooks of 160º, after a flight of nearly 500 miles, came to the place of fall, lifted the precipitated helicopter and returned to their starting base without being discovered.
