Oslo breakfast


The Oslo breakfast (Oslofrokosten) was breakfast for all schoolchildren in Norway. It was introduced for some Norwegian schools in the school year 1929-1930. From 1932 it was introduced at all Norwegian schools. Breakfast was taken three to three minutes before the start of the school day so the children still had fifteen minutes to play before the first hour began. From 1935 it was offered to all students who wanted breakfast.

The Oslo breakfast was a school breakfast that was composed by Professor Dr. Med. Carl Schiøtz based on scientific criteria for nutritious foods with a lot of vitamins and minerals.

Inspired by the Oslo breakfast, other countries introduced similar school meals. This happened in England (1938), Australia and the United States (1941).
