Salt and pepper set
A pepper and salt set is a set of two usually uniform containers filled with pepper and salt. These containers can be put on a table at a meal and serve to add flavors to the food if desired.
The containers are manufactured from a variety of materials such as glass, wood, ceramic, metal or plastic. The spreaders can be placed loosely on the table, but often accompanied by a matching coater or a standard. The latter is usually found in restaurants where the standard can be supplemented with vinegar, olive oil, sambal and the like depending on the type of food or the meal chosen.
A new development is that instead of the usual spreaders, a salt and pepper mill can be used.
The pepper and salt set has traditionally been a favorite gift at weddings.
