The Battle of Annual took place in Annual in Northern Morocco on July 20, 1921 at the start of the Reformed War (1920-1926). The Riffines, consisting of an army of 15,000 to 20,000 men, defeated under the leadership of Mohammed Abdelkrim El Khattabi a Spanish army of 60,000 men in the Battle of Annual. About 18,000 Spaniards were killed. After the battle, Mohammed Abdelkrim El Khattabi was declared the Confederate Republic of the Reefs. The war against the French and Spanish settlers lasted until 1926.
In 1926, the Confederate Republic of the Reefs ended, because the French and Spaniards used mustard gas to attack the Riffins. Thousands of innocent people came across during the attacks.
Abdelkarim El Khattabi has subsequently won, fearing that more Riffinian deaths fall. Also see
