A draft mark or drain mark is the mark with figures on the front and rear of a ship that can be used to read the draft.
It is often found that this is also a midsepeople at the drainage mark. Nowadays, the brands are usually metric, with the numbers always 10 centimeters high and indicating every 20 centimeters. In older ships, footsteps are still found, with the depths readable.
To determine the average draft, the draft at the brands must be corrected to the perpendicular lines. The trim correction then calculates the average draft and thus the displacement.
