The École Navale is the French Navy Academy, which is responsible for the training of French navy officers.

The academy was founded in 1830 by King Lodewijk Filips I. Originally, the academy was based on ships anchored in the port of Brest, such as the Borda (formerly Valmy), hence the nickname "Bordache" given to students.

In 1914, the École Navale was transferred to shore in Brest. During the Second World War, the school was destroyed by allied bombings and moved to nearby Lanvéoc-Poulmic on the other side of the Rade de Brest. The academy stayed at this location and was officially initiated in 1965 by Charles de Gaulle. Famous students
