Röling's age

Wiek Röling (Utrecht, June 20, 1936 - Haarlem, July 14, 2011) was a Dutch architect. From 1970 to 1988 he was city architect of Haarlem and from 1988 to 2001 professor of architecture at TU Delft.

In Haarlem he designed the music dome in Haarlemmerhout and the hanging gardens in Schalkwijk. Together with the architect Jan Bernard, he designed the design of the Verweyhal. Floating Sculpture Pavilion of Wiek Röling (1986)

According to many, the most beautiful building was designed for Sonsbeek 1986 in Arnhem: the floating pavilion. He was a great advocate of the conservation and use of historic buildings in the cities and in 2007 he commissioned the Dordrecht Municipality to continue as a supervisor of the Court Quarter to monitor the quality of this city area.

Before his death, Röling had plans to rebuild his Sonsbeek pavilion in a suitable place. After his death, the Stichting 'Beeldenpaviljoen Wiek Röling' has undertaken the implementation of these plans. Also see
