On 10 March 2003, a commission under the leadership of former Unilever chief Morris Tabaksblat was asked in the Netherlands to develop a code of conduct for listed companies and their shareholders (listed companies). On 9 December 2003, the Tabaksblat Committee published this Code of Conduct, which entered into force on 1 January 2004. The code was given the nickname 'Code-Tabaksblat' but is officially called the 'Dutch Corporate Governance Code'.
The Code contains principles and provisions that should be complied with by companies involved (such as directors and supervisory directors) and parties (institutional investors, etc.).
