John Lie A Fo (Paramaribo, June 15, 1945) is a Surinamese visual artist. He has a Chinese-Surinam family name. He works in French Guiana. He paints, does graphic work, makes sculptures and uses themes from the Surinamese jungle.
In the sixties he works as a musician in several European countries. Lie A Fo follows an art education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and the Free Academy in The Hague.
In 1974 he is admitted to the BKR (the Fine Arts Association), so that he can fully devote himself to the art. In 1979 Lie A Fo settled in Suriname. After the December killings he returns to The Hague. From the first half of the 80's there is a lot of interest in his work and various exhibitions.
In December 1983, he moved to French Guiana, a neighboring country of Surinam, but with the same natural environment that can be found in his work. He regularly returns to The Hague to work there. His work is exhibited throughout the Netherlands. Also see
