Nans van Leeuwen


Ferdinanda Emilia (Nans) van Leeuwen (Amsterdam, 23 December 1900 - Rotterdam, January 1, 1995) was a Dutch artist, children's bookwriter and illustrator.

Nans (Nandy) van Leeuwen came from an artistic family. Her father, Klaas van Leeuwen, was a painter, ornamental artist and drawing teacher, and also mother of motherhood Vaarzon Morel was artistic. In 1922 she completed her education at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.

Nans van Leeuwen was a teacher of the School of Girls in Rotterdam from 1922 to 1962.

In 1928, appeared at G.B. van Goor Zonen in Gouda the book Saint Nicolaasvertellingen, written by Jan Boer (1899-1983) with albums by Nans van Leeuwen. Later, Groningen's fairy tales and narratives appear later in 1930. She also provided the illustration of The Adventures of Puss Minet, written by Oom Adriaan, published by Kluitman in 1946.

She was especially noted by the drawings in the Piggelmeeboekjes, which she signed for Van Nelle coffee in Rotterdam in the 1930s and 40's.

She worked with illustrating many children's books and designing the book tires for most of these books.
