The White River is an 816 kilometer long tributary of Missouri in the states of Nebraska and South Dakota.

The river originates in northwest Nebraska, north of Harrison, at an altitude of 1,463 meters. From here she flows north to Crawford.

Then she enters southwestern South Dakota and flows north in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Afterwards she flows towards the northeast, joining the Wounded Knee Creek and flowing through parts of the Badlands National Park. The river forms the northern boundary of the reserve and southern boundary of Buffalo Gap National Park. About 25 kilometers south of Murdo, she coincides with the Little White River, then flows eastwards to expound about 25 kilometers southwest of Chamberlain in Missouri.
