Gerardus ("Gerard") of the Kerkhof (Helmond, May 21, 1943) became known as a professional football player at Sparta, where he worked for one year. His nickname in that period was "De Sneltrein". He is the older brother of René van Kerkhof and Willy van de Kerkhof. Gerard was the son of Reinier van de Kerkhof, a deserving amateur football player, and Mien van de Kerkhof-van Lieshout. Gerard is a family of 6 children: Bep, Jaan, Hannie and his twin brothers Willy and Rene. He has also played for Helmond Sport and the amateurs for a long time at Geldrop.
Gerard has been married to Helena Hendrika Maria van der Schoot since 1965 and has two children. He is a distant family of athlete Annie van Stiphout.
