John Lipsky


John Lipsky (Cedar Rapids, 1947) is an American economist. He was acting director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from May 15 until June 28, 2011, after being convicted of director Dominique Strauss-Kahn because he was charged with sexual abuse by a hotel employee. Lipsky was succeeded by Christine Lagarde.

Lipsky was born in a Jewish family. He followed the Wesleyan University and Stanford Business School. After graduating, he worked for the IMF for ten years to work with Salomon Brothers in 1984. In 1998 he switched to JPMorgan. On September 1, 2006 he became Deputy Director of the IMF, as successor to Anne Krüger.

Lipsky is married to Zsuzsanna Karasz.
