Olimpiodoro il Vecchio (Ancient Greek: Ὀλυμπιόδωρος, Olympiódōros; ... - ...) was a neoplatonic philosopher who founded the Neoplatonic School of Alexandria with mystical and eclectic interests.
He lived in the 5th century taught Alexandria of Egypt in the last years of the Roman Empire of the West. He is remembered to be one of the teachers of the proletarian Neoplatonic philosopher Proclo, a scholar of the Academy who married his master's daughter. Because of his inadequate style and the difficulty of the arguments he was dealing with, he was understood by few. When his lessons ended, Proclo used to repeat the topics discussed to the slower disciples in understanding. Olympian had fame of eloquent man and profound thinker. None of his written lessons came to us. Notemodify wikitesto
