Royal Fanfare St. Cecilia, Kanne

The Royal Fanfare St. Cecilia, Kanne is a fanfare orchestra from Kanne, now the town of Riemst, founded in 1848.

History

Pastor Stassen and Koster Straetmans were the main initiators for the creation of the fanfare. The latter also initially worked as a teacher and conductor of the fanfare orchestra. Soon a whole music corps was formed. This corps probably also participated in a grand festival of the Fanfare and the chant d'ensembles in Lanaken in 1876.

The first conductor Straetmans was succeeded by Gustaaf Francis de Pauw around the turn of the century, a well-known musician and conductor from Maastricht. After his death in 1943, he was succeeded by his son Désiré de Pauw, who has remained in the position for more than 25 years as a fanfare conductor. These conductors also improved the musical level of the fanfare orchestra.

The association has built its own association hall between the two world wars.

The fanfare orchestra has participated in national and international competitions and achieved good results. In 1978, Belgium's vice champion in the department became excellent.

In 1960 a drum band was established within the association. The drum band is very successful and in the superior department they recently won their fourth national title and a gold medal during the World Music Competition in Kerkrade. Nowadays

In the drum band there are currently 25 musicians and the fanfare currently counts 55 musicians. Since the 150th anniversary, there is also a student orchestra. conductors Externe link
