Virupaksha Raya

Virupaksha Raya (1404-1405) was the fourth rajah (emperor) of the Vijayanagara Empire in southern India, and a member of the Sangama dynasty. Hariharan II's death surprised the three principles: Deva Raya I, or Bukka Raya II or Virupaksha Raya had enough support to appear as a legitimate heir to fight the throne. Virupaksha managed to get control for a few months until he was killed by his own children, who put on the throne Bukka Raya II, until within two years Deva Raya I did not take the place of her older brother.

The Virupaksha reign lasted only a few months, so the Empire under his command did not make great changes. Virupaksha did not distinguish himself by his ability as a politician or a warrior. According to Fernando Nunes's chronicles, the Emperor was a cruel person, "to whom only women were concerned and drinking until they lost their senses." The neglect in his the task of emperor, associated with the situation of internal instability, caused the Empire to lose large regions by the hands of Muslims in the north, including Goa, Chaul and Dabhol.
