The Winter Garda Championship is a winter sailing event at Lake Garda organized by the Bardolino Nautical Center.

Stored by wikitesto At the end of the seventies a large group of sailors, with a boat in the port of Cisano (part of the municipality of Bardolino), began a series of informal challenges to determine, in a friendly and amateur manner, a kind of ranking about their regattas. They very well established that the best time to deal with these challenges was the winter months. At this stage of the year, in fact, the low lake offers a sailor the best of himself: an incredibly mild climate, air in abundant abundance and, above all, total absence of motor sailing. The idea immediately succeeded and memberships to this particular way of regatta became numerous. The promoters therefore found themselves in the need to create a first regulation and thanks to the passionate work of many sailors, it was possible to organize real regattas. The success of this formula was such that they asked for the sailors of Bardolino and Garda to be admitted. Therefore, the Vessel Committee of the Italian Sailing Federation sent observers to study the phenomenon. Over time, the organization became more and more heavy and so the organizers decided to turn to the Bardolino Nautical Center for the necessary technical support and the necessary "officiality". It qualifies as one of the largest sailing competitions, such as number of participants, on national territory. Each year, on average, more than 50 memberships are reached. The boats that drive the latest Championships belong to both monotypes and cruisers. Among the many monotypes are ASSO 99, First Class 8, J24, and J80. The cruisers, in the past, approached using the Class Cruise Line Regulation of Garda; Currently they are racing in compliance with the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) regulation, which is based on the calculated arrivals by applying compensated times.
