Kronenburg (office district)

Kronenburg is an office district in Amstelveen. The district is located in the far north of the municipality against the border with Amsterdam at the Kalfjeslaan. The west side is bordered by the Beneluxbaan, the east side by sports park Het Loopveld and the south side by the district Bankras / Kostverloren.

The office district was completed in the early seventies and was mainly intended for service companies. The district was spacious with avenues and foot and cycle paths where in between a lot of green with water parties. In the nineties, the district was expanded somewhat to the east with a number of new offices.

Due to the reduced demand for offices in the first twenty-first century, a number of offices have already been demolished. For example, around 30 years after construction, the three GAK towers were demolished in 1990, one of which was let to the tax authorities in 1990, after first considering renovation after the GAK and in 2003 also the tax authorities had been allocated.

To the north of the district are the student flats of the Uilenstede complex. Trivia

One of the offices in the neighborhood, building Kronenstede, was used in 1983 for recordings for the feature film The Elevator.
