Rashaida


The rashaida (in Arabic: بني رشيد, الرشايدة, al-Rashāyda, Banū Rashīd) is an ethnic group living in the Red Sea area, particularly between Eritrea and Sudan (practically in the same areas inhabited by Begia) that in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Most migrated, around 1846, from the Hijaz region, to the prospectous African coast. They are therefore essentially Arabs, though developing their own specific customs and customs. Many are dedicated to the nomadic breeding of dromedaries (Rashaida's exemplars enjoy great reputation in the region).

The spoken language is Arabic higiazeno.
