Wijbren Elgersma


Wijbren Elgersma (Ternaard, April 29, 1896 - Franeker, February 28, 1960) was a Dutch politician. Career

Elgersma was a son of Klaas Wybrens Elgersma and Feike Jans Terpstra. He started his career as second secretary in the Westdongeradeel municipality in 1913. Four years later he became deputy committees in Zwolle. Shortly afterwards he returned to Westdongeradeel, now the first official. From 1921 to 1931 he was Barradeel Town Secretary. In 1931 he was appointed Mayor of Franekeradeel. He was also an inspector of the Christian Democratic Society Association (1931-1950) and member of the Provincial States.

During the Second World War, Elgersma was deployed and replaced by a NSB mayor. He returned to office after the war. Elgersma suffered from a heart disease, in which he applied for sick leave in 1949, and in May 1952 he received an honorable resignation. He was succeeded by Frederik Willem Steenhuisen, who had already replaced him as acting mayor during his illness.
