Native of Auvergne, he was the son of a senior officer. He had at least four children: Apollinare, Simplicio and Taumasto, more than a quarter of an unknown name, father of Gaio Sollio Sidonio Apollinare. He was the first of the family to receive baptism.
Servants under Constantine Constantine "III" and his Constant Child II, as Prefect of the Praetorian Galli and Praefectus urbi of Arelate. In 408 he accompanied Constant, at the Caesar era, to Spain; was probably replaced by Decimio Rustico, by the appointment of Constant Augustus (probably in 409).
