Charles Arnold-Baker


Charles Arnold-Baker, born Wolfgang Charles Werner von Blumenthal, (Berlin, June 25, 1918 - June 6, 2009) was a British citizen and historian.

Lifecycle

Arnold-Baker was born as a German and adopted British nationality in the 1930s, as well as the name of his English stepfather.

In 1943, he became a member of the UK spying service MI6, where he collaborated with Kim Philby. In August-September 1944 he took part in the liberation of Belgium and was one of the first Allies to reach Antwerp. Then he took part in Norway's liberation.

After the Second World War he became active at the desk. In 1966, he began writing the standard work "Companion to British History", which was only published in 1996.

He married Edith May, née Woods (1918-2010) in London in 1943, who he learned at MI6. They got a son and a daughter. Publications Literature Externe link
