A teaching assistant or education assistant is an employee in Dutch primary education, secondary education, special education, continuing special education and adult education.
Under the responsibility of the teacher, teaching assistants perform simple, routine educational content tasks and assist students in acquiring skills. In addition, they have caregiving tasks, such as helping children to dress up or clean up a classroom. Educational assistants can also support small groups with slow or just fast pupils. Furthermore, they can help children learn social and other skills, such as listening, cleaning up or asking questions. Finally, assistants can help to compile class material for special projects.
The teaching assistant itself is formed at MBO level 4.
