Gessio (Latin: Gessius, floruit 421/443) was a politician of the Roman Empire of the West, Emperor Elia Eudocia's brother. Biography modifies wikitesto
Native of Athens, his father was called Leonzio, and besides Licinia he had a brother named Valerio.
When Licinia married Emperor Theodosius II, in 421, Gessio and Valerio received important assignments; in particular, Gessio was appointed Prefect of the Pretorio of the Illyrian.
It is not known when Gessio terminated his mandate, but in 443 Eudoxia had lost influence at court, so much so that he left the Constantinople court to go to Jerusalem. Bibliografiamodifica wikitesto
